Susie Mészáros - Head of Strings

Susie is a musician and teacher of the highest calibre, capable of delivering expert guidance that aspiring string players crave for.

At the age of seventeen she made her London debut playing duos with Yehudi Menuhin. She has now become an award winning soloist and chamber musician. As a session musician she is involved in many genres ranging from serious music through to pop; rock; jazz and country.

A student of the great Hungarian violinist Sándor Végh, Susie has performed solo throughout the UK and Europe - and appeared regularly on BBC radio 3. She played concertos with Arthur Grumiaux and Vladimir Spivakov. She has also led the Kent Opera Orchestra and been chosen as Principal for several major British orchestras.

She is a professor at the Royal College of music and the Royal Northern College of Music - and has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Purcell School.

Susie is a member of the renowned Chilingirian String Quartet with whom she has toured globally.

Bev

Bev’s Musical and Artistic Pedigree

Bev was lucky enough to be brought up in a family where creative pursuits were valued as highly as academic achievement.  There were few toys in the house but a plentiful supply of writing and drawing equipment as well as a variety of musical instruments.  She studied both piano and viola from an early age and joined the “family quartet” aged 11.  Her favourite school subject was Art and she subsequently went on to complete a Fine Art degree at Exeter University.

Once Bev had children of her own she realised what a precious gift her parents had given her with this strong emphasis on creativity.

In this current quick-fix world of digital entertainment, Bev believes it’s important for children to see for themselves that dedication and practice is required to improve any skills in life.

Art and Music provide much more than a creative outlet. They reward us with social and educational benefits and improve self-confidence. Whilst music stimulates academic development, art inspires young people to excel both in and out of the classroom. Applying new-founded skills with like-minded people and their families is a hugely enjoyable and rewarding experience for all.

Angela

Angela - Specialising in Lower Strings

Having taught for many years she is highly experienced at dealing with students from beginners through to the more proficient - and all age groups from the very young upwards.

She studied and gained qualifications in ABRSM music theory through to Grade 8 and all her past students, who have opted to further their musical prowess and add this to their studies, have passed.

Angela is a professional musician, orchestrator and composer. She has taught music in schools from key stages one, two and three through GCSE and A Level.

Studying at Leeds University she holds a first in music. Her second study instrument was 'cello. Angela's teaching style is innovative and very much based on learning in a ‘fun’ way.

Angela firmly believes that learning to play a musical instrument, even though sometimes demanding, it should be an enjoyable experience - not a chore.

The Violin

The violin is the highest sounding member of the string family.

It often plays the melody - by no means exclusively, but usually more than the other string instruments.

In the hands of a good player it has the ability to reach out to the core of human emotion. On the other hand it's versatility and range of bowing options can lead the listener on a wondrous journey of excitement.

The Viola

The viola is the second highest sounding member of the string family.

It  plays the melodic line in the middle to upper range - or often doubles the violin, for the purpose of reinforcing or adding colour at a lower pitch. -

Like all of the string instruments it can also play a crucial role in the harmony.

In its natural range it is beautifully rich in tone.

The 'Cello

The 'cello is the second lowest sounding member of the string family.

Until the advent of the double bass - the 'cello provided the bass to the string section.

In more modern times the 'cello has been freed up to allow it's versatility to bloom.

The sound of a 'cello or 'cellos playing rich melodies is really quite something special.
